After Effects Tutorial: Export QuickTime H264 Format DOWNLOAD QuickTime Here. SUBTITLES IN THE TUTORIAL: Check Export default do not Quicktime H264 First. Adobe has dropped support for Quicktime 7 in After Effects 15.1 so a lot of legacy codecs will not be available anymore. The link you are referencing is very old and not applicable to newer versions of AE. If you have an old After Effects version then do not forget to download Quicktime codecs; if you render with Adobe Media Encoder make sure that it matches Adobe Effects version, in most cases, it means that you have to use the same year versions.

Introduction

This tutorial will show you how to install and configure QuickTime for optimal performance, security, and user satisfaction.

Apple has discontinued development of QuickTime. However, many professional applications require QuickTime for importing and editing certain file and video formats, such as MP4/MOV, ProRes and DNxHD. Examples of such applications are: Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, GoPro Studio, Sony Vegas, and Traktor DJ. This tutorial will help you install only the minimal components needed for such applications.

QuickTime has some known security vulnerabilities. This tutorial shows you how you can safely use QuickTime, by skipping installation of insecure components such as the player and browser plugin.

Step 1: Downloading the installer

Version 7.79.80.95 (39.9 MB)

Download from Apple.com
Download from MajorGeeks.com
Download from FileHippo.com

This installer requires Windows Vista or newer.

If you have Windows XP you need to use version 7.6 of QuickTime. That version does not have a customizable installer. It installs the browser plugins by default, so it isn't secure. This tutorial does not apply to that version!

Step 2: Installation

If you already have QuickTime installed, then we recommend to uninstall it first. After the uninstallation you should reboot your computer.

Now run the installer (QuickTimeInstaller.exe)

Quicktime Codec For After Effects
  1. Click on the Next button on the first page on the installation wizard.
  2. Accept the License Agreement.
  3. Select Custom install
  4. Only enable QuickTime Essentials. Disable everything else.
If you use Sony Vegas, then you also need to install the QuickTime Player.
  5. Now you will be on the Destination Folder page.
Uncheck the boxes for Install Desktop shortcuts and Automatically update QuickTime and other Apple software
  6. Click on the Install button. The installation will now begin.
  7. Click on the Finish button.

Step 3: Cleanup

Windows Start Menu > Control Panel > Software

Remove Apple Software Update. You don't need this, since QuickTime isn't going to receive updates.

Step 4: Configuration

Access the Windows Control Panel and open the QuickTime applet:

Windows 7:
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> search for 'QuickTime' in top right corner
Windows 8:
Press WindowsKey+I -> Control Panel -> search for 'QuickTime' in top right corner
Windows 10:
Right-click on Start -> Control Panel -> search for 'QuickTime' in top right corner

Make the following changes in the QuickTime settings:

Update tab:

Uncheck Check for updates automatically.

Advanced tab:

Uncheck Install QuickTime icon in system tray.

Security tips

Your QuickTime installation is secure as long as you don't open any .mov and .qtl files that you have downloaded from untrusted sources. This warning only applies to the QuickTime Player and third party applications that use the QuickTime Codecs.

You don't need to worry about .mov files if you use VLC Player or the K-Lite Codec Pack for playback.

Here you'll find a comprehensive list of media file formats supported in After Effects.

This document lists the file formats which Adobe After Effects can import and export. You can add support for additional file formats to After Effects by installing a third-party plug-in. For a list of software developers that make plug-ins for After Effects, see Plug-ins.

If you receive an error message or the video does not display correctly, you may need to install the codec used by the file. For more information about the codec in use, contact the manufacturer of the software or hardware used to create the file.

Most file formats are rendered from After Effects by adding the composition to the render queue; see Render and export a movie using the render queue. Some formats are only available through the File > Export menu; see Render and export a movie using QuickTime components.

Note:

The After Effects 15.1 release no longer supports legacy 32-bit QuickTime operations on macOS and Windows.

After Effects can import Adobe Photoshop (.PSD), Adobe Illustrator (.AI), and Encapsulated PostScript (.EPS) files that use the CMYK color space. After Effects will convert the CMYK color values to RGB.

Note: After Effects cannot assign an input color profile to files that use non-RGB color spaces, such as CMYK. Color management on CMYK files is therefore limited. To effectively color manage CMYK files you should convert them to RGB before you import them into After Effects. For more information, see Interpret a footage item by assigning an input color profile.

While After Effects can operate in 16 and 32 bits per channel, most video and animation file formats and codecs support only 8-bpc. Typical cross-application workflows for higher bit-depth color involve rendering to a still image sequence rather than a video or animation file. Still image formats that support 16-bpc that After Effects can render to include PSD, PNG, TIFF, IFF, and SGI. Formats that support 32-bpc include PSD, EXR, HDR, and TIFF.

Video codecs that support 10-bpc are provided with hardware such as a capture card or software such as Adobe Premiere Pro. You can import 10-bpc uncompressed YUV AVI files created in Adobe Premiere Pro into 16-bpc RGB After Effects projects. You can also render from After Effects with 10-bpc YUV compression.
